Marketing a relatively unknown author's book is a considerable challenge. Book trade is a complex business. Success here requires special expertise, experience and contacts.

Once manuscript has been accepted for publication with Papyrus, and the author decides to have it published through us then all the advantages of Papyrus's extensive marketing service is available to them.

Marketing is an expensive activity and hence potential books are carefully evaluated to ensure that they fit the bill. Papyrus carefully analyses and assesses the chances of an author's book appealing to wider audiences before undertaking any marketing activity. Such an analysis includes selective test marketing and opinion gathering exercise.


Once the potential of a book and the target market is ascertained, the marketing plan is drafted (which includes a publicity plan, distribution plan, PR Plan, Online Sales plan etc.) and discussed in detail with the authors and forms an integral part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Papyrus and authors.

The publicity process is initiated through press conferences and press releases in presence of independent individuals/ entities like reporters, journalists, representatives of PTI, UNI and other media. Select Local and national media of mass communication is targeted which can reach the customer groups effectively. Events like book reading and signing will be organized when necessary.

Papyrus will through its network of contacts will ensure that the authors publication will be reviewed in relevant websites and the publication will be available to customers from popular online stores. Reviews by known experts on subject of publication will be organized in print media.

Papyrus will undertakes several proactive marketing methods to promote the author's book like;

  • paid advertising in print media (Magazines, catalogues etc.)
  • web banners on popular generic and bookseller websites frequented by target market
  • promotional events like book signing, book reading
  • in-store promotions like distribution of freebies like post cards, book marks etc.
  • direct mail to select target groups.

Papyrus ensures that all books marketed by it are listed in bookseller's column in magazines/newspapers and listed on relevant websites (like Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com), Amazon.com etc.) for online access. The distribution system assures that an author's book is present in book shops frequented by target market audiences mostly from ready stock.

To support self promotion by the authors, papyrus provides them with a free web pages on its website in the author's forum and maintains it from time to time at a very nominal charge. The author web page can contain photos, a biography and other information about their literary capabilities. The web pages are updated from time to time.

An author's book will also be featured in papyrus catalogue released from time to time and will figure in any other promotional material produced in house.. Appearance of book cover in trade catalogues printed by other organisations is arranged wherever necessary and relevant.
